I ended up watching a YouTube video of a similar shirt to figure out how to do some steps, the collar for example. If you truly are a beginner and have never done a collar before, the instructions are not sufficient. I think the shirt may be a little long. Overall decent and it turned out well.
I made a t-shirt for my boyfriend with this pattern and it turned out amazing. Pattern is great, also the size guide.
However, I feel like there is some information missing in the instructions - like what's the seam allowance? Is the seam allowance in the pattern or do I have to add it myself?
Also, the steps are not explained with a lot of detail. I think for an absolute beginner, it might be a bit tricky. For me it was fine, and as I said, I love the finished product - but maybe some more instructions could be added to the document :-)
(I skipped making the pocket on purpose though)
This was my first time sewing a shirt as a beginner and so I chose the “beginner friendly” pattern. Unfortunately, as a beginner the pattern instructions were very vague and if it were not for a detailed video on YouTube, I would not have known what to do and would not have finished the shirt.
Also, the template for the sleeve says to “cut out 2 pieces”, but it should specify that one of two pieces should be reversed because two exact pieces will not work.
In addition, the pattern says that the front side of the shirt should have interfacing but does not specify what part of the front needs it.
I reached out to the this storeto clarify both of these instances but did not hear back.
Maybe the answers are obvious for someone who is experienced, but I am just a beginner and that is why I chose a beginner friendly version.
I'm fairly new to garment sewing. I've done some straight top stitching on leather work and watched my mom sew a lot growing up. This pattern is simple simple. Especially if you know how to ask the internet for clarifications like - "how to sew elastic into a waistband" or "how to overcast". The first time through took me six hours because this was literally the first garment I've ever made. The second time took me 75 minutes start to finish from memory. That's how clear the pattern is.
The pattern, while technically step by step, is not extremely detailed. It is not a beginner pattern, you need some prior knowledge of clothes sewing. That being said, any questions I had, the designer was very quick to answer and explain. I wound up following a YouTube video for most of the construction of the pattern and made it slightly different than the original pattern.
Pattern very unclear and faint. Made it very difficult to trace out the correct size of pattern, especially as pieces with both seam allowances and without were shown. Pieces without seam allowances really not needed. Also legend did not match lines printed.
Also shows only to cut out 1 yoke but 2 are needed and referred to in the instructions.
I managed to make a good shirt from it, but only because I am an experienced sewer.
